Volvo
The Volvo Company is based at Sweden, and has been known to be a producer of commercial vehicles. It manufactured construction equipment, aircraft parts, trucks, buses and even marine and industrial power systems. It started out as a subsidiary of a ball bearing factory, but eventually branched out upon launching its first car, that was nicknamed Jakob. The cars that Volvo manufactured were built in a manner that they could endure the bumpy roads of Sweden and its extreme temperatures. It has always aimed at ensuring that cars produced are safe for the passengers.
Over the decades, the Volvo company has manufactured a number of models that were, in most cases, a modification of previous models, with enhanced safety components. For instance, in the 1960s, the models came with dashboards that were padded, and this protected a passenger in case of an emergency brake. In the 1970s, the company fitted the models that were produced then with safety features such as childproof lock systems, and baby seats that faced backwards. However in the 1980s, the company broke the monotony of being too limited to safety, and launched a model that was turbocharged.
In the early 1990s, Volvo Company launched a model that was a front wheel drive, the Volvo 850. It is also during this period that the S40 and C70 models. The Volvo C70 has been modified over time and its features do not differ very much from those in the S40 Sedan. It is sporty and is quite stable at high speeds. It also has a 5-speed transmission. It was used as a base for continuous production of other hard-top convertible models. The C30 model is another model in the Volvo family, and is available in two models; the C30 T5 and the T5 R-design whose interior is made of leather. Their engines are 2.5-litre, and are turbocharged with five cylinders and a 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission. Another feature of this model is that it is a front wheel drive. Its fuel consumption is said to be economical.
Until 2010, the Volvo Company was owned by the Ford Motor Company, and mainly concentrated on production of commercial vehicles. It was later sold to a china-based automotive manufacturer, as a result of economy crisis that the Ford Motor Company experienced. The Volvo Company, however, has shares of several motor-producing companies and for this reason, it is growing rapidly.
