History of the VW Polo
VW POLO was first released in 1975 by German car manufacturer Volkswagen. VW POLO is hatchback models, the first generation Polo was brought in market in 1975 which were available in three different engine options: 895cc, 10923cc and 1272cc. By 1979, it had gained huge acceptability and popularity, 500,000 Polos were being produced worldwide. The 1979 VW POLO Mark 1 was remodeled and new accessories were added; plastic bumpers, revised dash board and revamped front grill.
Second generation Polos were introduced in 1981. Unlike the first generation Polos, they were available in three body types; Sedan style, Coupe style, and Wagon style. After VW took over SEAT, which was producing small rear engine called SEAT 133/Fiat 133, it expanded its production and market to Spain in mid 1980s. By 1983, one million Polos had been produced. Third generation Polo, the VW POLO Mark 3, was produced in 1994. This model was available in three and five door formats and had some characteristics with the SEAT Ibiza Mark 2. In 2000, the Mark 3 was remodeled and new features were added; styling on the interior, headlights and bumper.
In 2002, VW Polo Mark 4 was introduced. Originally unveiled in 2001, it was not received well by the UK market. It had borrowed features from VW Lupo such as the quad headlights. Due to the negative reception in 2002, an updated version, which designed by Walter de Silva, was introduced in seven different trim levels. In 2007, the VW Polo BlueMotion was introduced. This new version was manufactured with strong emphasis on low carbon dioxide emissions, and an efficient fuel economy. The first model was the 1.4 litre VW Polo TDI which featured aerodynamic changes, lightweight alloys, and longer gear ratios.
The advancement to the 21st century prompted VW to release the VW polo Mark 5. This model was declared the European car of the year in 2010, and the World car of the year in the same year. It sold more than 45,000 units in UK in its first year of release. In 2011, the VW Polo GTI was re-modified and more high-technology features were added. For instance, the engine is a new 1.4L TSI and has a petrol direct injection, and turbo. Transmission of power to the front wheels is through a seven-speed transmission. It accelerates to 100km/hr in a span of only seven seconds, and consumes only 6 liters of fuel for every 100 kilometers covered. These features conclude that the VW Polo GTI is fast and quite economical.
