Ford Falcon
Ford Falcon is a product of the Ford Motor Company, and its production began in 1960. The first model was a medium-sized car, which used 2.4-litre engine, generating 90 horsepower. Other engines that were available in that generation included 2.8-litre generating 101 horsepower, and the 4.3-litre engine. In Australia, there were models in the falcon family such as Ford Fairmont or Ford Futura, but are no longer produced. The falcon family has been built in various body styles, such as 4-door sedan, 5-door station wagon, 2-door van as well as 2-door hardtop. It is important to note that the Ford falcon models were produced in North America, Australia and Argentina.
The second generation of the falcon models was in production in 1964 to 1965. This production targeted the youth, and thus the Ford Mustang was launched. Other models included the ford Econoline, The Mercury Comet, and the Ford Falcon Ranchero. 3-speed automatic and manual transmission was offered. The third generation was assembled from 1966 to 1970, and was offered in 2-door coupe, 4-door sedan and 5-door station wagon body styles. The models in this generation were a slight upgrade of the second generation.in 1969; Ford launched a more powerful engine that enhanced performance, as it was 3.6-litre, generating 132 horsepower.
In 1970, a new model, known as the 1970 half falcon, was launched and was available in 2-door, 4-door sedan and 5-door station wagon body styles. The Australian-based ford company launched a new model, the XA Falcon, which slightly resembled the Mustang. It was a hardtop coupe with frameless windows. In 1973, Falcon Sprint, a sports car, was launched. It had a greater performance, as it used a 3.6-litre engine, which generated 166 horsepower. Its interior was upgraded, with the steering wheel being covered in leather. In the same decade, Ford improved the overall look of its models by, for instance, adding a plastic grille, upgrading the door handles and most of all improving the exhaust system.
The fourth generation saw the production of various Falcon models, which had more improved features, and enhanced performance. These models were the XE, XF, XG and XH Falcon. This generation was stopped in 1999. The fifth generation was produced between 1988 and 1998 and obviously had better features than its predecessors. The sixth and seven generations are the most modern of the Falcon family. The V8 engine has been upgraded, and turbocharged engines have been launched. The ford company has great plans for the future production of the falcon model.
